Comfortable fit, sturdy construction March 27, 2010

I've owned several pairs of Wellco boots over the years. The prior models were traditional military-issue jungle and desert boots and I've always found them comfortable and well-made. These Spartan boots follow that tradition but are much more a product of the 21st Century. Unlike older models, the Spartan provides excellent ankle support.
The fit is a little snug so I bought one size up from my usual military boot size because of the padded tongue and shaft and the boots fit perfectly. They are comfortable and needed little time to break in - two wearings of a few hours each wearing was enough. Note that they are not insulated per se but the padding makes them warm - I live in a cool, dry climate but I doubt I'll wear these in the height of summer. Otherwise, they are good Fall/Spring boots and will probably work out on milder Winter days, too. My only minor gripe is that the plastic eyelets are just as tough to lace up as regular eyelets. This is NOT a speedlace boot so if you want quick on/off look elsewhere. Otherwise, I find these boots to be exceptional.
My first pair were black smooth leather and I've just ordered a pair in tan suede!
